Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umaru Radda, has approved a specialized technical training programme for mechanics at the Central Mechanical Workshop of the Katsina Youth Craft Village (KYCV) in collaboration with Autogig International Resources Limited, Lagos.
The training, which commenced on Thursday and will run until November 3, is aimed at upgrading the technical competence and practical skills of KYCV mechanics in line with global automotive standards.
The programme focuses on modern vehicle systems, advanced diagnostics, hybrid and electric technologies, Internet of Things (IoT)-based diagnostics, compressed natural gas (CNG) installation, and workshop management. It combines classroom learning with practical sessions to expose participants to emerging automotive innovations.
Speaking on the initiative, the Coordinator of the Katsina Youth Craft Village, Engr. Kabir Abdullahi, described the Governor’s approval as a “visionary and transformative step” toward empowering youths through technical education.
He said the training would equip young mechanics with modern automotive knowledge and help them become self-reliant professionals contributing to the state’s industrial growth.
“This programme is more than just training; it is an investment in the future of Katsina’s young people. It will expose our mechanics to hybrid systems, digital diagnostics, and alternative energy technologies that align with global standards,” he said.
Abdullahi added that the Central Mechanical Workshop is being repositioned to serve as a centre of excellence for automotive innovation and continuous learning.
He also disclosed that discussions are ongoing between Autogig International and the Katsina Youth Craft Village to strengthen collaboration through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The partnership will cover areas such as spare parts supply, staff training, joint research, and linkages with major automotive manufacturers.
According to him, the collaboration will help transform the Youth Craft Village into a government-backed hub for vehicle repair, diagnostics, and technical innovation in Northern Nigeria.
The training is part of the Youth Craft Village Transformation Programme, one of the key initiatives under the Radda administration’s “Building Your Future” agenda, designed to equip young people with employable and entrepreneurial skills.
Governor Radda’s administration has continued to prioritize vocational and technical education as part of efforts to build a skilled, self-reliant workforce capable of driving industrial development and innovation across the state.
